Ireland - As You’ve Never Seen It
Ireland comes to the big screen
If you’re Irish or of Irish descent and you need reminding of what a stunning place Ireland is, then you’re in for a real treat. ‘Ireland”, a giant screen documentary film narrated by none other than our very own Liam Neeson, was released in cinemas in Ireland, the US, and Canada in February 2022.
From Belfast to Dublin, the Cliffs of Moher to the Giants Causeway, Kilkenny to Cong, and the Skellig Islands and more, viewers will see Ireland from land, sea, and sky in a way they have never seen before.
A journey of discovery
While the film is narrated by Neeson, it follows writer Manchán Magan on a cross-country adventure exploring Ireland’s history, culture, and stunning landscapes. Manchán is joined by Irish concert violinist Patricia Treacey and four Irish teen music students on a quest to learn about their heritage and the island on which they live.
There’s no doubt that Neeson is one of Ireland’s greatest storytellers and he’s the perfect person and voice to tell this story.
In Liam’s own words:
"There's a movement in Ireland to reconnect with our heritage, to rediscover what it means to be Irish. I am delighted to help bring the joy and diversity of all that Ireland has to offer, both the old and the new, to IMAX and giant-screen audiences worldwide.
“As viewers experience Ireland’s great beauty and humanity on the world’s largest screens, they will fall in love all over again."
Don’t you just love that voice!
A unique and special place
The film is produced by MacGillivray Freeman, known for capturing epic journeys for the big screen including Everest (also narrated by Neeson), Into America’s Wild, and Apollo 11. With “Ireland” they hope to connect people, including the 70 million people of Irish descent around the world, with all the wonder that makes Ireland such a unique and special place.
And there’s more
This is the second big screen film to come out of Ireland in the past few years. “Belfast”, the movie, set in Belfast during “The Troubles” in 1969, received rave reviews with its all-star cast of Jamie Dornan, Judi Dench, Ciarán Hinds and Catriona Balfe. You can read about it here
