Game of Thrones Filming Locations
As the final season of Game of Thrones fades into the mists of time, the Irish locations featured remain the focus of fans’ attention, drawing thousands of people wanting to immerse themselves in the world of Westeros.
Northern Ireland has been one of the principal locations for filming the series, but where are the scenes shot? Here are some of the beautiful locations used in the series.
The all-pervading Winterfell was of course the wonderful estate of Castleward in County Down.

An iconic scene from Season 1 showed Arya Stark and the Nights’ Watch travelling along the Kingsroad. This road is bordered on both sides by huge overhanging beech trees known as The Dark Hedges. These are situated in a once quiet country road in County Antrim.

In Season 2, the quarry at Larrybane near the Causeway Coast in County Antrim was the setting for the tournament that introduced viewers to the character, Brienne Tarth.

Pollnagollum Cave with its veil-like waterfall in County Fermanagh, served as the hideout for the Brotherhood without Banners when they sought refuge from the Lannister invaders, in Season 3.

Leitrim Lodge forms part of the granite mountain range in County Down. This is where Bran and Rickon Stark take refuge after Theon wins and takes control of Winterfell.

Portstewart Strand is set in an area of outstanding beauty and in the Game of Thrones it became the Coast of Dorne. In Season 5, Jaime Lannister and Bronn landed here and were captured by Dorish soldiers.

A small harbour for local fishing boats in Carnlough in County Antrim was the setting for Arya Stark to walk fully clothed into chilly waters in Season 6.
The beautiful Downhill Strand is the setting for the memorable island of Dragonstone in Season 7.
In 2016, a hurricane felled several trees along the Dark Hedges road. From these fallen trees, ten intricately designed doors depicting scenes from Game of Thrones around Northern Ireland.
