Ara's games

Some ideas for outdoor fun

The Irish family is a strong bond that distance cannot break and ours is no different. Shane and Kerry have introduced some of our youngest family members and though we may be ever so slightly biased we think they are the smartest, cutest and most adorable kids on the planet. Matched only by the growing number of other grandchildren, nieces and nephews that make up the Baileo Keltic Kids

Ara is their eldest and she and dad Shane, a sports science graduate love inventing games so we asked them to share a few.

So, all the way from Derrylaughan in County Tyrone, N. Ireland, here’s just a few of Ara’s games.

Captain America

Shane has been a keen footballer (GAA Gaelic football of course) playing for his home team and county. He now works with the GAA to promote Gaelic sports and has a special interest in making sports accessible to kids with disabilities (he prefers to call them kids with abilities). So it was inevitable that a ball would feature in many games.

Try this one, knocking the cones over with the ball and then make it harder with one arm, then no arms. No Cones? No problem, anything that can be knocked over without breaking will do instead.

It’s fun, it’s fast and as you can see the sun does shine in Ireland - occasionally.

Rounders

This one has a high giggle factor but then most things do when Ara’s around.

Scoring is easy:

Blue Cone = 1 point

White Cone = 2 points

Red Cone + 3 points

Cones are available online or from most sports stores but a colored towel rolled up works just as well.

Ara’s Game

Not to be outdone by dad, Ara created this game all by herself using just what was available and more than a little imagination.

We may just have another budding sports scientist on our hands but she’s starting with the Irish entry in the Olympic individual Giggling competition - hands down winner.

Hoops are a great investment and provide endless opportunities for fun. Sometimes thee simplest things are best.

Kids love a challenge and time spent outside, inventing, imagineering and improvising is never wasted.
